Jennifer's October Observations

Paris — It has been four and a half weeks of practically back-to-back trade events around Europe. The Trendease Team has been very busy. While we dive into all of the information we gathered to cross-reference it and compare it to other research we have been conducting, the fall exhibition roundup starts with reviews of the various trend presentations available at the events. There is a plethora of inspiration for you to sink your teeth into!

Maison&Objet: Funtasy

Paris — Maison&Objet’s Home Observatory team catalogs new shifts in consumption and emerging lifestyles by breathing in the current atmosphere, exploring and gathering clues that forecast the future, detecting and analyzing new attitudes, spying on society’s quirks, and dissecting its wants. The latest theme is ENERGIES exemplified through Funtasy, Illuminations, and Psychotropia. After unveiling an avant premiere in June, the Trendease Team is delighted to share with you this video and coverage hot off of the exhibition floor.

Maison&Objet: Illuminations

Paris — Close to two hundred photographs in this month’s issue of Trendease review the trends found on the floor at Maison&Objet this September in Paris. Within this gallery the focus is on not only the aesthetic movements of lighting, but also on the deeper meaning of illuminations and the power of light. From magical lamps to colorful installations, a halo may float above your head after viewing these images.

Illusion

Maison&Objet: Psychotropia

Paris — Bernard takes us on a journey through eight seemingly disconnected rooms to experience hallucination, spiritual painting, dreams, illusions, revelations, Surrealism, taboos, and cultural interpretations. A psychedelic reverie is soaring beyond the real and leading us into other dimensions. This is a philanthropic motion that is freeing the imagination, reinvigorating surprising aesthetics, and triggering unconventional currents.

Fragility

Crafts Direction: Alchemie

Paris — Representing 6000 members, the French federation of craft professionals known as Ateliers d'Art de France, which also happens to be the co-owner of the renowned exhibition Maison&Objet, once again called upon the talented Elizabeth Leriche to stage a stunning display of the works that play into current lifestyle shifts. The theme conceived for this year is Alchemie.

A/W 14-15: Print, Pattern, Process

Brussels / Paris — In September Indigo showcased international studios selling their newest creative textiles, patterns, prints, and surface designs for home and fashion in Brussels and Paris, respectively. Indigo holds a firm belief that it contains the answers to the markets’ creative needs. In this report see highlights from the show and an in-depth review of the Autumn/Winter 2014-2015 directions.

Spring/Summer 2015 is Here

Worldwide — Cotton Incorporated has put together a forecast for Spring/Summer 2015. Read the trend forecasts here, learn about some textile applications that play into the design direction, and see the supporting color story with Pantone references. From clinical white to shocking brights, with some pastels in between, get your color fix here.

Spoilt for Choice

Paris — (UN)EXPECTED was one of the overarching themes presented at ModAmont for the A/W 2014-2015 seasons. Surrealism is a reoccurring topic where a dreamlike world is born from ordinary things combined together in an extraordinary mix-n-match manner. The trend towards darkness is balanced with the contra trend of lightness. In some cases more is better and in others less is more. Equilibrium for the future is found here.
