Food.Art.Design

London — It would appear that there is a growing trend of utilizing disused postal sorting offices in London as venues for must-explore design happenings. You all know about Designjunction that popped up in central London during the London Design Festival, but you may be unaware of the latest craze that just opened last week in west London: Mama Brown’s. For those who want to have their finger on the pulse, this is a pop-up you must pop in!

Where Next is Now!

Frankfurt — The winter trade show season kicks off in five weeks, are you ready? As usual, the inauguration of the 2014 event calendar is with Heimtextil at the Messe Frankfurt in Germany. Heimtextil in and of itself is a journey. With approximately twenty halls to navigate over the course of four days advance planning is recommended. The Trendease Team has already begun its plan of action, and we are sharing it with you—plus a sneak peek gallery of products!

Design for all Seasons

Bangkok — As the bitter cold winter season is upon us in New York, London, and Paris we dream of places that warm us. While we do not have the opportunity to bask under the sun on amazing tropical beaches at present, we can warm ourselves in the memory of paradise and find inspiration from these designs no matter what the weather may be outside. A touch of the east combined with aesthetics suitable for the west, we hope you enjoy this selection of products as much as we did scouting them. This gallery of images is saturated with creative talent for all seasons.

Responsible Design: Let it Rain!

Mumbai — Something revolutionary happened this summer. The Water Bench by MARS Architects was unveiled. The Water Bench improves water independence from the local municipality and brings a more sustainable approach to keeping urban and personal spaces green. Such a water management system also hedges against floods and lack of water during droughts. If you don’t know about this bench, it is time to be enlightened.

Book Worm: Dixonary

Worldwide — On the title page is it reads, “Illuminations, revelations and post rationalizations from a chaotic mind.” Anyone who has met Tom Dixon and has had few moments to chat with him will be astonished at how well this man’s essence translates to paper through text and images. Traveling through this paper time machine, the reader experiences Tom Dixon’s trials and tribulations of being an innovator. His investigations into alternative design techniques are beyond intriguing.

NEWSLETTER #460 - Concept Hotel Suites

London — The latest in the world of hotel interiors is the concept hotel rooms set up at Sleep. The brief was inspired by the widespread curiosity in, and reminiscence of, the 1960s, and requested designers to ‘redesign’ a junior suite in a fictional hotel initially built during the peak of ‘Pop Art’, interpreting the drastic spirit of this cultural crusade into a up-to-date experience that is relevant today. See all of the suites here.
