Jennifer's October Observations

London — Thankfully, some in-person events happened this past month, notably the London Design Festival in the capital, and 3DaysofDesign in Copenhagen, Denmark. While they may have been scaled back and in following with the ‘new normal’ of social distancing, hand sanitizing, and the most fashionable (typing sarcastically) accessory: the face mask, they took place, which gives one a sensation like being sprung from jail. Those whom we conversed with were overjoyed to be able to exhibit or open their showroom doors.

3DaysofDesign Prevails in Person

Copenhagen — There was plenty of optimism at this edition of 3DaysofDesign. Due to Covid-19, this year's event, held around Copenhagen each May, was postponed until September. Like all event organizers this year, the team had to come up with new ideas, fallback plans, and creative solutions. Unlike many though, their event went ahead; delve into the recap here.

The Same But Different

Milan/London — Two extraordinary women in design from the UK and Italy creatively take one of their designs and fashion it across a number of product categories for the home. Sourcing the right manufacturers and partners is part of their key to success. From sustainability to celebrating female creativity, this feature has it in spades.

Milan/London — From rural China to London and Milan, these vintage traditional textiles inspire fresh life into the home, and even a new, limited edition fragrance line. Wall hangings, upholstery, bedding, clothing, and the now ‘must-have’ item, the face mask, can undergo am aesthetic transformation with these fabrics.

Imaginings at the Textile Museum

Tilburg — Kiki van Eijk is a very accomplished name in contemporary Dutch design. Her works in textiles, lighting, furniture, ceramics, and glassware have homes with consumers, museums, and private collectors. A retrospect of her work is available to see at the Textile Museum from September 26, 2020 to September 21, 2021.

Shaping Absent Space

Paris — What decoration highlight for Spring/Summer 2021 do we have in store for you here? When you think of embroideries what images are conjured in your mind? In a manner of speaking, these textiles are shaping absent space. What materials, weaves, and patterns will prove important for this upcoming season? Get the gist here.

Explore Futuristic Patterns

London — It is hard to tell what the future holds; is it bleak or is it bright? One thing is for certain: the future will be. In this gallery we look at some work from recent 2020 textile graduates who specialized in print. The common thread here is the futuristic feel to the designs. They are fluid and have gone through a number of transformations before reaching their final look.

THE CAFFEINATOR

Multifunctional Housewares of Glass

Multiple European Cities — Borosilicate glass, stainless steel, aluminum, and bamboo take these homewares take to the next level of design.
