Jennifer's February Fables

Frankfurt — The dominating design direction for textiles goes deeper than aesthetics across the industry, not just at Heimtextil. This may be frustrating for people not to have a pictorial display of trends handed to them on a silver platter. This year, and beyond, we need to take time to stop and learn more about what we are looking at, because it is what is behind the scenes that is going to drive us to a better tomorrow for our own well-being and that of the planet.

Textiles Encourage Genuine Connections

Frankfurt — Fostering community, in the heartwarming setting of social gatherings, people unite around a table adorned with home textiles. The intimate ambiance blends Scandinavian and Mediterranean influences, creating a modern, trend-right space. Soft tonal textiles contribute warmth, encouraging bonding and genuine connections.

Colors for 2024/2025 from the Earth

Frankfurt — A novel stance towards coloring techniques manifests in a vibrant color palette crafted with natural pigments sourced from the earth. Traditional coloring methods are elevated with cutting-edge bioengineering technology. At Heimtextil, in the Trend Space, a fresh approach to color was presented for 2024/25.

Technologies Take Center Stage

Frankfurt — This year at the Heimtextil Trend Space technologies were at the center stage, rather than aesthetics. Embedded in this were examples of artificial intelligence in home textiles, including ChatGPT and Midjourney, as well as augmented reality in weaving and upholstery production, plus an installation based on ASMR (autonomous sensory meridian response).

Bleeding-Edge Materials

Frankfurt — The future of textiles is embarking on a fresh compositional adventure. Forward-thinking textiles initiate from original foundations such as plant-based or bio-engineered methods, emphasizing their role in a circular cycle for a more environmentally conscious textile world. Trend: Plant-Based

Frankfurt — Discover plant-based textiles, sourced from soil-grown materials, separated into two groups. The first uses robust crops like cacti, hemp, abaca, and seaweed, providing sustainable solutions. The second involves by-products from banana, olive, persimmon, and hemp production. Plant-based textiles offer a sustainable benefit, being natural and more conducive to recirculation.

Trend: Bio-Engineered

Frankfurt — See the intersection of nature and technology with bio-engineered textiles, which can be categorized as fully bioengineered or bio-degradable enhanced textiles. Fully bio-engineered textiles use nature-inspired processes, having a sustainable advantage through biodegradation, while synthetic textiles can be enhanced with biodegradable properties, approaching a natural material state.

Trend: Technological Textiles

Frankfurt — Several methods, including upcycling and recycling of textiles, revitalizing traditional craft techniques in textile construction, and adopting textile design thinking, are supported by technology to transform the textile industry. Technological advancements in recycling textile waste and upcycling approaches contribute to a circular approach, diminishing the reliance on virgin production.
